Pretty DIY Make Up Organizer

Forgive the photos - they're not stellar!
I don't know what to call this project - except maybe a solution...  A solution to the mess that is my bathroom counter top.  You see, each morning as I get ready for work, I just about empty the contents of my make up bag all over the counter.

This drives Mr. Juggling Act nuts.

Frankly, it drives me nuts, too.  And Miss Olivia is just tall enough now to stand on her tiptoes and reach these items, which she then runs away with, tries to eat, uses them to poke her brother in the eye, or hides them in the toy box.

Or all of the above.

So you can see why I needed some sort of solution to this problem, right?

Now, forgive me because I'm about to commit a big faux pas here and not give credit to the originator of the idea - but honestly I can't remember if I saw it on Pinterest or someone's blog or what.  Sorry!!

Here's what I did - I ransacked my parent's garage (you should check that place out, they've got tons of great stuff in there!) and got a square vase from my mom's cabinet of vases (yes, she has a cabinet of vases in her garage).

I bought some inexpensive vase filler crystals from Hobby Lobby (oh, how I love thee, Hobby Lobby!) and filled the vase with them.

Then I took a simple ribbon and a few dots of glue to secure it around the vase.  (I decided on this ribbon since this will sit on the counter next to the Reed Diffuser that I made.)

I was going to make these two cute button flowers into hair pieces for Olivia, but they were so perfect for this project!  I fastened them using the same fabric glue.
I stuck all my brushes, eyeliners, mascaras, lip gloss and other long skinny stuff into the vase, and now when I'm done, I stick them back there.  It's perfect!  Livi can't reach them anymore.  The brushes don't get wet on the counter.  And I can actually FIND stuff.  Plus, (bonus) as I went through things, I tossed out mascara from before Olivia was born and whatnot.

So that's what I've been up to.  What cute projects have you been working on this week?

  2. I saw this somewhere as well, but couldn't tell you either. Oh well, it didn't look the same. :) I need to do this so the Mister will stop telling me that I'm making a mess of our sink. Love the square vase.

  3. Oooh, I love this! Unfortunately I have an old house and a pedestal sink so my makeup bag will forever be a horrid mess.

  5. What a fabulous idea! I love these easy solutions to organizing one aspect of our lives. Along a similar vein, I also recently discovered that gardeners can store their handheld tools in buckets of sand. What did we do before Pinterest? ;)

  6. Love this idea, because I'm right there with you.....I dump out the contents of my bag every morning. I also have 2 make up bandits at my house, so I'm forever finding lip gloss left open and smeared everywhere, or mascara on walls....I'd love to get it up and out of little hands. Thanks for sharing!
